How to Check Your PESCO Bill Online

If you live in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and want to check your electricity bill online, the first question to settle is whether you are still a PESCO consumer. Until July 2025, the Peshawar Electric Supply Company served all of KPK. As of 1 July 2025, the Hazara region split off to form a new DISCO called HAZECO (Hazara Electric Supply Company), and connections in Abbottabad and surrounding districts now sit with HAZECO instead.

This guide covers how to check your PESCO bill online for the seven circles that remain under PESCO, what to do if your connection turned out to be HAZECO, and the practical realities of bill checking from KPK’s varied terrain (mountainous valleys, border districts, and major towns alike).

First, Confirm You Are Still PESCO

The PESCO circles after the July 2025 split are: Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Bannu, Khyber, Dera Ismail Khan, and Swabi. If your connection is in one of these areas, you are a PESCO consumer and the process below applies.

If your connection is in Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Kohistan, Haripur, Tor Ghar, or any other Hazara district, you are now a HAZECO consumer, and you need to use the HAZECO portal at hazeco.com.pk instead. Your reference number remains the same, but the billing system has migrated. PESCO’s portal will not find HAZECO bills, and vice versa.

This split affected approximately 1.2 million consumers in the Hazara region. The boundaries between the new HAZECO and the remaining PESCO follow existing administrative district lines, so if you can identify your district, you can identify your current DISCO. The transition has been gradual, and some Hazara consumers reported a delay of a few months before their HAZECO bills started appearing properly. If you are in transition, check both portals or call the helplines on both sides to confirm which system your account is currently in.

How to Check Your PESCO Bill Online?

For consumers definitely under PESCO, the PESCO bill online check process takes about ten seconds. You need either:

  • Your 14-digit reference number, printed on every previous PESCO bill at the top left
  • Or your 10-digit customer ID, printed just below the reference number

The reference number is what most online tools accept, including the official PESCO portal at PESCO bill and any third-party PESCO bill check website.

The steps:

  • Open the bill check page
  • Type your 14-digit reference number, no spaces, no dashes
  • Press Check Bill

The duplicate bill loads in seconds. From there, save it as a PDF (Ctrl+P on desktop, share menu on mobile) or print directly. The duplicate is accepted at any bank counter, JazzCash agent, or mobile banking app for payment.

If the bill does not load, the usual causes are typos in the reference number, a current month’s bill that has not yet been generated (typical in the first 2 to 3 days after billing date), or PITC server slowdowns during peak hours. For new connections that have never received a paper bill, you may need to wait for the first bill to be issued before the online check works. Until then, you can ask your nearest PESCO sub-division office for the reference number assigned to your meter.

Connectivity and KPK Realities

PESCO’s service area is geographically larger and more varied than most Pakistani DISCOs. Peshawar is a major urban centre with reliable internet, but Swat’s mountain valleys, the Khyber Pass region, and Bannu’s rural pockets have patchy connectivity at best.

Some practical tips for KPK consumers:

  • The bill check website loads better on a 3G connection if you avoid bill PDFs and use the on-screen summary view first
  • For the full bill download, switch to Wi-Fi where possible, since the PDF rendering can fail on weak data connections
  • If the website times out repeatedly, try a third-party tool. Different tools have different server resilience, and what fails on one may work on another
  • Bookmark a working bill check page on your phone for next month, since the same URL usually works reliably once you find one that does

For households in remote valleys or border districts, consider setting up SMS bill alerts at the nearest PESCO sub-division office. The SMS arrives over the cellular network, which is more reliable than mobile internet in remote terrain. You will still need the online check for the full bill copy, but the SMS tells you the amount and due date instantly.

For travelling consumers (people from KPK working in major cities elsewhere), checking your home PESCO bill from outside the province works fine. The portal does not restrict access by location, and the same reference number works from anywhere in Pakistan.

Reading Your PESCO Bill

The PESCO bill format follows standard Pakistani DISCO conventions. The main items to look at:

  • Units consumed and meter reading dates
  • Per-unit cost based on your slab
  • FPA (Fuel Price Adjustment), set monthly by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority at nepra.org.pk
  • FC Surcharge of around 43 paisa per unit
  • GST at 18%
  • Electricity duty at 1.5%
  • TV fee at Rs. 35
  • Income Tax (for commercial users and domestic users above 1,000 units)
  • L.P. Surcharge if you pay after the due date
  • Arrears section showing any unpaid balance carried forward
  • Payment history for the previous 12 months

PESCO bills include Income Tax on a different threshold from some other DISCOs. Domestic consumers with monthly usage above 1,000 units have Income Tax withheld at source through the bill. In summer, when air conditioning pushes some Peshawar households above 1,000 units, the Income Tax line item appears for the first time and surprises consumers who have not seen it on previous bills.

For agricultural tubewell consumers, who are common in DI Khan and lower KPK farming districts, the bill operates on a separate tariff schedule. The line items may include subsidy adjustments that do not appear on domestic or commercial bills.

PESCO Peak Hours

PESCO uses a two-season peak hours schedule, simpler than the four-season schedules used by FESCO and GEPCO. The peak hours are:

  • April to October: 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm
  • November to March: 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm

If you have a TOU (Time of Use) meter, electricity costs more during these peak windows. Shifting heavy appliance use (irons, water pumps, air conditioners) to off-peak hours can reduce your bill noticeably over a billing cycle.

When to Contact PESCO Directly?

For any of the following, call the PESCO helpline at 111-000-128 or visit your sub-division office:

  • Disputes about meter readings or bill amounts
  • New connection requests
  • Detection bill disputes (PESCO has historically had a higher rate of detection bills in some areas)
  • Account transfer when buying property
  • Outage reporting and restoration timing
  • Confirming whether your connection is now under PESCO or HAZECO post-split

The helpline operates throughout the day and is generally responsive for routine queries. PESCO maintains regional offices in each of its seven circle headquarters. For complex issues or document-heavy requests, the regional office is more efficient than the central helpline.

Conclusion

Checking your PESCO bill online is fast once you have your reference number and know which DISCO you actually belong to. The July 2025 split that created HAZECO removed Hazara from PESCO’s coverage, so confirm your circle first if there is any doubt. For the seven remaining PESCO circles across Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Bannu, Khyber, DI Khan, and Swabi, the standard online check process works in seconds. Save your reference number in your phone, set up SMS alerts, and the monthly check becomes routine instead of a hunt for the missing paper copy.
